This Thanksgiving, 2022, my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing staff at The Grand. It’s going on eight months since my 98 year old mother, Annilde Decenzo, who has dementia and is bed bound 24/7, has been in this facility. The daily care she receives is by far the best anywhere. No amount of money in the world could get her better care that she receives at The Grand. Rocky, is the second floor nurse supervisor, and is an exceptional human being in every way. He listens to whatever we bring to his attention and addresses it in a timely manner. He is respectful, professional and goes above and beyond his duties. The nurses we’ve encountered who care for mom, Beatrice, Marie, Carolyn, Monique, Shirley, Michelle, Caroline, C.C., and many more whose names I unfortunately don’t know, are simply the Dream Team of Nurses and Aides. Their dedication, patience, understanding, professionalism, diligence and compassion have on many occasions reduced me to tears. They smile easily, laugh, engage, perform their responsibilities with care, diligence, and professionalism making sure all residents, mom included, feel respected, valued and cared for. I have seen this with my own eyes day after day, week after week, month after month, from each of them. Social worker Erik is kind and attentive and makes you feel heard and valued as family members of a resident. Meeting him was our first encounter with The Grand and we knew good things were ahead, we just didn’t know how very true that initial feeling would be. Initially, we thought we would be very lucky if mom had one staff member who genuinely cared, but we’ve found that the nurses, supervisor, receptionist, social worker, and aides have all been consistently amazing in their roles. And mom, as well as ourselves have benefitted greatly. We visit at different days/times throughout the week, so we’ve seen mom being fed, changed, bathed, sung to, played with, comforted and many other of the daily interactions staff has with her. Because mom is bed-bound with dementia she couldn’t have complained even if she wasn’t receiving such care, but that didn’t stop them from providing excellent care for her round the clock. Mom had an extremely difficult life right up to the time it was discovered that she had dementia. I can only believe that her last days were meant to be spent in an environment of love, caring, decency, integrity and compassion, so that, on some level, she could experience the kindness that everyone deserves. Thank you one and all staff members for making mom, and our experience, so full of light, love and grace. You’ve given us eight months that we never thought we’d have of seeing mom laugh, sing, make jokes, and simply enjoy being alive and safe in her body once again. For this gift and all the others you give her everyday, we are forever grateful and humbled by the extent of all that you do for not only mom, but for all the residents at The Grand. We’ve seen you give the same quality of care to all. You are each a blessing beyond measure. I am forever grateful to all of you and know that you will be always blessed for the kindness and compassion you give to those who desperately need it, like mom. Thank you, I love you all, Anna Diliberti

My 98 year old mother, who suffers from dementia and is bed bound was accepted into The Grand the first week of March 2022. I have to say that she has received by far the best care I could have ever hoped for. She came from a situation in which she had been neglected, abused and basically left for dead unable to speak, engage, or move at all. She was petrified if she was touched in any way crying and screaming from the fear she felt in her body and condition. I thought this was truly the end and it pained my heart beyond belief. In a matter of three weeks I saw improvements in my mom that were nothing short of miraculous, she began smiling, laughing, singing and talking, not that she suddenly knew who I was but she was her old self in the ways she engaged once again. I realized that the second floor nurses and aides who I saw interact with her, namely, Marie, Beatrice, Michelle, Caroline, Nyasia and others, were among the best of the best in the level of care and love they showed my mom. I understood after seeing them in action how and why my mother was alive again, and she did have wonderful reasons to smile and laugh again. They are all angels of light who give the best of themselves and my mother is the recipient of their loving attention and care during the most vulnerable time of her life, and she continues to thrive because of this. Nurse supervisor Rocky never hesitated from day one to give us updates and answer any questions we had. Always fully transparent, open and made us feel welcome to ask anything. The social worker, Erik, could not be more helpful and accommodating, gracious and wonderful and there when we needed him most. I knew I had hit lotto when even the receptionists Anna and Dani, were as welcoming, warm and kind as could be. I truly thought we were dreaming! Could this be real? Yes it was and still is. Mom now rests easy in her bed knowing she is safe, clean, fed, cared for, and has all her needs met. I cannot say why others have had different experiences at The Grand, but I have witnessed firsthand the care, attention and love that my mother receives on a daily basis from staff. They could very easily just do their rounds and give her the basic care that she requires, but they don’t stop there, they go above and beyond to make sure she is safe and knows she is cared for by stopping in to see her, bringing her that pudding as a treat, talking and playing with her. They have become her family in the truest sense of the word. And she reflects this every time I see her with big smiles and laughter and all the fear and screams and terror are now a thing of the past. If I could give The Grand a million stars I would as they have literally brought my mom back to life and I know it’s because they care and demonstrate it each and everyday in all they do. Thank you all for being amazing reminders of what’s possible when you love what you do and do what you love. Even if my mom had only one more day to live, I am blessed that she was able to be surrounded by the beautiful loving people at The Grand. God bless you all.
