The Positives The Therapists are great and seem to know what they are doing. They are caring and encouraging. The Negatives I have never seen a place more filthy and unorganized than Heartland. The rooms are NEVER cleaned, the floors/walls/bathrooms are unsanitary, no one seems to care. In a post-Covid world, I expected cleaning/sanitizing measures to be in place…that is not the case. My mom has been in the facility for 3 weeks and not once has someone mopped, swept, or cleaned the room/bathroom. There is garbage all over the floor from prior residents (used masks included). I finally kicked them out in the hallway after 2 weeks hoping someone would clean them up that way. The filters in the air unit have never been cleaned…I pulled a layer a 1/4 inch thick of black dirt off of them. There is urine/fecal matter all over the toilet/floor from prior residents (mom is currently unable to walk/use the restroom…not from us). I am in shock at how this place would ever pass a health inspection. Covid Response When we toured the facility initially, we were informed facility had a dedicated “wing” for those who contract Covid. Additionally, they further advised the individuals were quarantined away from the general public…lies. In the past week, 4 cases have popped up in the facility, and they are all within feet of my mom…she is surrounded. Not only does this put her at a serious risk, they consistently leave her door wide open when she has made it clear she wants it to remain closed due to exposure. There is no “wing” note acceptable precautions in place. Nursing/CNA There are a couple decent nurses part of the time; however, if a patient needs assistance and calls for help, we have waited for hours at time to be cleaned/attended to. Many times we have waited for over 30 minutes just to find out there are 6-8 nurses/CNAs playing on their cellphones 15 feet away…with the call light flashing. It is beyond frustrating and unacceptable. My mom developed a fungal infection and severe UTI from sitting in her soiled diaper the majority of her time. Lastly, on 3 occasions, the food staff somehow missed my mother’s meals. Had I not been there to question where her meal was, she would have never received her food. We were provided with numerous excuses, but no validity to any of them…unacceptable.
