Reviews
A longtime resident recently told me that life at Harbour's Edge is a form of elder abuse. Here are some things she might have been thinking about: 1) Yesterday, I was seated for lunch at 11:30AM. My order was taken fifteen minutes later, at 11:45 AM. Another twenty minutes later, at 12:05AM, my waiter came by to tell me that my food would be out in "five to ten minutes". Another twenty-five minutes later --- and a full hour after I'd been seated --- it was 12:30PM. That was when I gave up and drove to the Cheesecake Factory. This experience was not atypical. 2) An alternative to the cafeteria is to order takeout. Takeout typically arrives after a long and unpredictable delay, and the "hot" food is always cold. 3) One expects to reach a point where driving to the Cheesecake Factory is not really an option. At that point there are really no alternatives (other, of course, than cooking for one's self, which also becomes less of an option over time). In this whole giant complex, there is literally no place other than the cafeteria to find a bite to eat. There is no little shop. There is not even a vending machine. One feels trapped. 4) Speaking of feeling trapped: There is no place to take an attractive outdoor walk. There is a very short path by the waterside, that takes about five minutes to traverse, and of course there is the option to walk back and forth along that path. Otherwise, one has to leave the complex -- but the only exit is directly onto a busy multilane road with a great deal of traffic. Unless that appeals to you, if you want to walk, you first have to drive. Of course driving is another of those things that becomes less of an option over time, so once again, one is trapped. 5) The wireless goes down constantly, often several times in an hour. Most residents deal with this by arranging for their own wireless service, which works fine as long as you stay in your apartment, but the instant you travel to, say, the lobby (or to the cafeteria, where you'll really be wanting that wireless during the hourlong wait for your food), you are out of luck. I won't be here much longer. A lot of the residents, though, have reached a point where moving is not really an option. They are the truly trapped, and I feel sorry for them.
