Reviews
This community has the potential to be amazing. There are enough care staff, dining servers, housekeepers, nurses and department heads that truly put their all into creating the very best days for the people they serve. What this company lacks overall is communication and support from home offices. I was the memory care director of the cove from November until recently. For personal reasons I had to step down. I own my portion of some of the short comings of the community. All of the associates lack proper training in caring for someone living with Dementia. The way the community is structured is brilliant using everyone as a universal worker however the follow through with making sure that everyone knows something about every resident in that building is subpar. Please do not overlook Harbor Chase as a place for your loved one. The Activists Coordinator, the Director of Life Enrichment and Nursing director put their all into everything they do. As the Cove director, I dropped the ball more than once AND I attempted to be just a little better than I was the day before. The leadership team in place has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with however this is a business driven by census and the bottom line. The pressure to move people in overwhelms everything else. Home office does not support them. In fact, they hinder by not paying invoices timely, causing needed services and repairs to be delayed. Despite all of this; no community is perfect. Harbor Chase does attempt to make the community feel like a home. When you move your loved one in, to any place, know your rights, your loved one’s rights, how to contact the ombudsman, know the state’s regulations and be the squeaky wheel. At this moment, Harbor Chase is only meeting regulations and not especially motivated or encouraged to do more. I have tried to make this review as objective as possible. I loved my residents, their families and my team, However being one of the departments that had almost no support from within the community or home office made doing my job difficult at best.
My husband just had a stroke. And our lives changed in a huge way. My husband is 59 years old. We have three teenage children. 24 days in Hospital. 21 days in a rehab center and two weeks in a nursing facility. He wasn’t ready to come home to our home it was built in the early 1800s and has dangerous stairs. I came across Harbor Chase my search for a safe place for him to be while he continues to heal and rehab. HarborChase was it amazing angelic find. I had to remove my husband from the nursing facility it was way too expensive for me to afford. Besides that it was a terrible experience there. I met Nancy for the first time from Harbor Chase. She came immediately the very day I called her to the nursing facility to have a meeting with myself in my Husband. She was so wonderful. A total breath of fresh air. Both of us feel very safe we signed the papers for my Husband who is going to be discharged the very next day from the nursing home. We hadn’t even visited Harbor Chase because there was no time so I had to go by what I saw on the website. The next day I transported my husband to Harbor Chase. They all read it to us as if we were getting on cruise ship. The entryway was gorgeous. The staff was so welcoming. My husband actually had a smile on his face. It’s the first smile I’ve seen since this stroke. We walked around the facility like a kid in a candy store. The Director invited my daughter and I to have dinner with my husband. I asked him what he wanted for dinner. They gave us a few suggestions to help us decide. He said fillet . I said it would be our pleasure to make that for you. A tour since we hadn’t seen the place before. It was way more than we could ever imagined. They had set up a beautiful apartment for him we moved his stuff in and they took us on a tour. My teenage daughter was sold on the game room that was equipped with three switch gaming stations, basketball and ice hockey table, game tables, pinball machine, off to the side who is the poker room with a large screen TV that had Netflix Etc. The gym was very nice, my husband lifts weights every night with my son and is very anxious to continue to heal and do therapy so that was a wonderful spot for him to see. It’s a beautiful salon it looks like one that you would see in a beautiful hotel, the dining areas have soaring ceilings and bright lights lots of windows, there are other eating areas that are elegant evening spots, and intimate family dining, the chef seem to be very accommodating. The nursing staff was so wonderful and helpful it’s been a lot of time with us discussing what my husbands needs were going to be. The nurses station conveniently located. There is a bar and people were using it and congregating in enjoying one another’s company. Activity room that was beautiful and off to the side and see through the windows and lovely courtyard with comfortable seating including a fire pit area. I even talked with the woman at the front desk about scheduling my husband’s transport to his primary care physician. They are making that happen on Monday morning. It all happened over two day period. For the last several months since the stroke. Everyone I’ve dealt with has felt like hospital, a nursing home with heavy distressing overtones. HarborChase was the first place that I felt was a breath of fresh air, a relief, respite, A vacation, a cruise. Even Nancy ‘s perfume was called beach. It felt like vacation. So far I leave recommend this place. Best wishes on your journey place for yourself or a loved one. Thank you HarborChase
